About DanBred
DanBred is a Danish pig breeding system. Since 1985, the system has registered and validated data on all litters. It is one of the world’s most innovative breeding system, and it owns, probably, the biggest and most reliable database on individual registrations in the world.
In Denmark, there has been performed breeding with pigs since the nineteenth century. With improved possibilities on the technical side as well as with regard to how registration is done, the development of the breeding programme has speeded up in the last 20 years.
From the 1990s until 2017, DanAvl was the brand, that Danish breeding pigs were developed and sold under. The DanAvl brand received great international attention, and was used more and more commercially. End of 2017, DanAvl become DanBred.
The company DanBred
DanBred is owned by the Danish Agriculture and Food Council, Pig Production with 51%, and with each 24.5% by Danish Agro and Holding Company DBI A/S.
The nucleus herds produce breeding stock and boars for AI stations. The multiplier herds produce DanBred hybrids (F1, DanBred Landrace crossed with DanBred Yorkshire) for Danish and foreign producers of slaughtering pigs.
The AI stations are selling DanBred semen in Denmark, and also a few places abroad. The breeding herds deliver boars to the AI stations, where semen is collected and distributed.
